Once again, arguably the best and definitely one of the most popular surf spots in the US is at risk by the Man. After defeating the infamous SR-241 Toll Road extension in 2008 with an overwhelming display of unity and public outcry, the Transportation Corridor Agency is now seeking authorization to build the first five-mile “segment” of the toll road.
Surfrider and other environmental groups argue that, “If the first section of road is built, the dominos will fall and the rest of the road will be built down to San Onofre/Trestles.”
Surfrider CEO, Jim Moriarty, sums it up best – ” (the) Truth is, we’ll be saving Trestles for the rest of our lives…Parks are never saved. They’re always being saved.”
