The Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria is a supported mass participation cycling event, catering to all ages and fitness levels by offering three distances: 140km for the enthusiast, 90km for the entry-level rider and an up to 1.5 hour Community Ride for beginners, families, and for those who want to experience cycling for the first time.
The Victoria area has been a strong supporter of the Endurance Conspiracy movement since the beginning, and it’s nice to see our friends playing a role in this first time event happening later this spring, May 28, 2011. EC Ambassador, Pete Reid is a bush pilot for Harbour Air Seaplanes which is a founding sponsor for the event. EC Friend and Olympic Gold & Silver medalist, Simon Whitfield, will be one of the local Victorian celebrities that will be leading the 3 different rides for the inaugural tour. Simon will be leading the 90km circuit event, while Tour de France hero, Ryder Hesjedal will be leading the 140 km circuit, and former Olympian Silken Laumann will be at the front of the Community Ride.
You’ll be hard pressed to find any better cycling or athletic environment than Victoria, BC, so do yourself a favor and check it out. You can also get some great training tips on Simon’s new Triton Blog, part of his new triathlon interactive online training engine.
