Check out whose getting into the bike painting business. Surf and skate company, RVCA, in conjunction with famed Italian bicycle company Cinelli, jointly launched Pressure. In collaboration with an exceptional list of renowned artists, to include a personal favorite, Barry McGee, Pressure matches RVCA’s deep roots within the arts and Cinelli’s appreciation for world class design – making for some ultra cool cycling frames and tees. Pressure draws attention to the undeniable link between underground art and track bike culture that has solidified in recent years. The art show debut was at RVCA’s flagship store in San Francisco and was followed by a second showing in Austin, Texas at Lance Armstrong’s new bike shop, Mellow Johnny’s. The shows were commemorated with an array of limited-edition merchandise, to include, RVCA T-shirts, a hardcover book, and, most notably, a special BARRY McGEE-designed Cinelli bike. Limited to 50 pieces worldwide and available in three frame sizes (54, 56 or 58), the cycle will be available as 25 complete bikes and 25 frame-only kits with pricetags of $3,700.00 and $2,100.00 respectively, and is only available for sale only through RVCA and Mellow Johnny’s.
And, not to be outdone, in 2008, DC Shoes teamed up with SE Bikes to produce their own frame, the Quadrangle. A remake of an old 1979 revamped SE Cruiser, a limited number of Quadrangles were produced in 2008. Pretty cool.
