The Peace Race was an annual multiple stage bicycle race held in the Eastern Bloc states of Czechoslovakia, East Germany, and Poland. Because cyclists from the Eastern Bloc countries were not allowed to race professionally, the race was for the best riders from Communist Countries, as well as, some invited athletes. It was first organized in 1948 with the idea of relieving tensions existing between Central European countries following World War II.
