Slayer of Giants and Maker of Legends...such is the lore of L'alpe d'Huez! First used in the tour in 1952 and won by Fausto Coppi, the mountain has a history of setting the stage for the eventual tour winner to establish his ascendance to the maillot jaune.

Christened "the Dutch Mountain" because of the dominance of the stage by racers from the Netherlands during the seventies, the stage continues to attract thousands of orange clad dutch spectators. With 21 hairpin turns this 13.8km climb with an average gradient of 8.1% and a max grade of 13% will definitely shake out the wannabe's from the legitimate contenders.
