For the past 20 years, Hoogerheide has hosted 15 finals of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup and twice for the UCI World Championships. Growing up in the hometown of Mathieu van der Poel and so many other cycling greats, not only does every kid ride their bike to school...and everywhere else for that matter, but they aren't allowed to use roads (so I'm told) and are forced to ride through fields and streams to get where they're going. Cycling is "highly encouraged" as the preferred method of transportation. So much that if you are seen driving your car around town, you may very well find it with 4 deflated tires the following morning. No slackers in Hoogerheide!
