De Ronde Van Vlaanderen is one of the most iconic cycling events on the schedule. One of the 5 Monuments of Cycling, having taken place for over a century.
The finale of the race consists of three loops in the Flemish Ardennes with a finish in Oudenaarde. These loops consist of a succession of hills and a few flat sections of cobbled roads, which usually determine the results of the race. The hills offer many opportunities to attack and are usually the decisive sites of the race. These climbs are notorious for being short but very steep, and most of them are cobbled. The steepest of all is the fully cobbled Koppenberg - only 600 meters in length and running upto 22% grades on a truly challenging paved road that forces even the strongest riders to walk their bikes at times.
